Sending your student off to Ohio State is an exciting milestone. It’s completely natural to want to ensure they are safe, healthy and well-cared for while away from home. We want to reassure you that when it comes to their health, your Buckeye is in excellent hands.
Located right in the heart of campus, Student Health Services (SHS) is ready to serve as their trusted medical home away from home. Whether they need a routine check-up, a quick prescription refill or care for an unexpected illness, our compassionate team is here to support them every step of the way.
Conveniently located in the Wilce Student Health Center, SHS offers a comprehensive network of care. Your student will have access to dedicated physicians, nurse practitioners and specialists, alongside essential on-site services like a pharmacy, laboratory, radiology and physical therapy. We make it easy for students to get the care they need without having to leave campus.
Because SHS operates as a fee-for-service medical facility (meaning services are billed separately and are not covered by tuition), taking a few quick steps now can help ensure a seamless experience for your student later.
Review Your Insurance Coverage
If your student plans to waive the university’s Student Health Benefits Plan, we recommend checking in with your current insurance provider to make sure Student Health Services is in-network.
If you live outside of Ohio, it’s also a good idea to ask your provider if your plan includes “away-from-home” benefits. Since insurance plans vary widely and SHS is considered out-of-network for all HMO plans, a quick phone call can prevent any unexpected out-of-pocket costs.
When contacting your insurance provider, ask whether Student Health Services is a contracted provider and provide the following details:
- Tax ID: 31-6025986
- Facility NPI: 1942274410
- Pharmacy NPI: 1952347445
If you find that your current insurance provides limited coverage away from home, you may want to consider enrolling your student in the Ohio State Student Health Benefits Plan for comprehensive, cost-effective care.
If your student already has sufficient coverage and doesn’t need the university plan, please remember to complete the insurance waiver in BuckeyeLink by Tuesday, August 18.
A Simple Next Step: Uploading Insurance Cards
Once you’ve confirmed your coverage, please encourage your student to upload copies of their medical and prescription insurance cards to MyBuckMD. Having this on file ensures smoother billing and prevents any delays when they come in for a visit.
- Log in at go.osu.edu/MyBuckMD
- Select “Document Uploads”
- Upload clear images of the front and back of each insurance card
We also recommend that students keep a physical or digital copy of their insurance card with them so they can show it at each appointment.
