Project goal: Update Student Health Services’ brand flyer to better reflect their services to students, using updated language and modernizing design.
In December 2025, before I went on maternity leave, I met with stakeholders in SHS to talk about updating this flyer for orientation (May 2026). From that meeting, I got a better understanding of what they wanted the flyer to be and shared my notes in our project management system. Most of the edits ended up being made when I returned from leave in March.
Goals of this flyer:
1. Explain on-campus services to parents and students
2. Explain that students need to check if their existing health insurance works with Ohio State or if additional Away From Home coverage is needed.
3. Communicate that the health insurance card needs to be uploaded to My BuckMD
The revised design of the flyer positioned content so Services is top of the hierarchy, followed by Important Health Insurance info, and third is the MyBuckMD.
Copy Changes:
- From “Know About Us, Before You Need Us” to “Your On-Campus Health Center.” We wanted to clearly state what SHS is and emphasize that it’s conveniently located within Ohio State, for students to access.
- From “As your dedicated, on-campus clinic, we are here to help every student at Ohio State stay healthy and get the right treatment for any health concern” to “For preventive, routine and unexpected care, Student Health Services is your on-campus healthcare center to support you during your academic journey.” We have some emphasized repetition with “your on-campus healthcare center” from the subheader. We wanted to more clearly state who SHS is.
- I was adamant about changing the word “Ancillary” in “Ancillary Services” because I didn’t think that was the right word for a college-age audience. I wanted a simpler word like “Support Services.” Similarly, we changed “Immunizations” to “Vaccinations” to use the common language of students.
- Under location, we added “Located by the RPAC and Thompson Library” to better describe to students where on campus they can find SHS.
- We revised a lot of the language around the health insurance plan, calling it the Student Health Benefits Plan instead of the Student Health Insurance. A lot of students were confused about insurance, so we wanted to make it clear to them the importance of understanding their insurance coverage.
Ultimately, I was proud of how the final flyer turned out because it better presents important information to students. I like working on projects like this that have a positive impact on campus.
