This Labor Day weekend, village residents can stop by Bigelow Square to rummage around and dig up some treasures.
The Johnstown Historical Society is sponsoring its annual Flea Market Sept. 4-7.
Flea market hours Friday will be from noon to 8 p.m., Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Monday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Sunday, many of the vendors often sell items for half price, organizers said.
Terry Priest, of the Johnstown Historical Society, said the flea market is the group’s major fundraiser for the year.
“There are already a lot of people in town for that holiday weekend, so we wanted to have an event where people could gather together downtown,” Priest said.
“It’s a festive chance for people to rummage around together and get some fresh air,” he said.
Priest described the flea market as a large-scale yard sale with a wide variety of items for sale.
He said some of the same vendors have returned for several years now and people come back year after year just to see their favorite vendor.
Priest wasn’t sure the exact amount of people who usually attend, but he said it’s an “unbelievable amount of people.”
He said usually there are at least 20-30 different vendors.
There will be three to four food vendors, selling sandwiches, hot dogs hamburgers and other food.
“If people haven’t been to downtown, they need to come down to the flea market,” Priest said. “It’s great for people who just enjoy browsing.”
The historical society will have a booth and sell antiques such as farm memorabilia to raise money for its museum rooms.
The museum rooms are open the first Sunday of each month from 2 to 4 p.m. and by special appointment.
In previous years, the society has made made more than $500 from sales at its booth.
Those looking to sell items at the flea market can rent 20-foot-by-20-foot spaces for $50. Proceeds go to the Historical Society.
