The story of the Brutus Buckeye exam room wall clings

At Ohio State’s College of Veterinary Medicine, a veterinarian in the Spectrum of Care clinic told me that clients will often sit in the exam room waiting and use that time to take photos of their pets. I’d seen on social media where pet owners had tagged us in these waiting room photos. I took this observation and noticed an opportunity to increase branded user-generated content within the exam rooms.
I worked with our in-house graphic designer and leadership team within the veterinary hospital to create Ohio State Brutus Buckeye wall clings for the ten exam rooms. We used a brand-approved Brutus pose and used the familiar scarlet leaves background.
At first, it was challenging to convince leadership to make the investment in these wall clings because we’d never done something like this. I created a mock-up of the signs, took measurements of the exam rooms, and showed them exactly how the signs would be used.

I got the necessary buy-in from leadership and installed the wall clings in the exam rooms. I also hung up the accompanying signs encouraging pet owners to share the photos with @OSUVetCollege or #OSUVetMed. The project took about a month to complete from start to finish.
The veterinarians have told me that clients love being able to take their pet’s photo with the one and only Brutus Buckeye. Two years later, pet owners are still taking photos with the wall clings and tagging us, especially on Instagram.
I try to always reshare these photos on Instagram, to encourage more pet owners to visit Ohio State Veterinary Medical Center. I like how natural these photos feel to social media, while still being appropriately branded with Ohio State.
The success of the wall clings lives on through Instagram:
