A good social media manager should be curious and always experimenting.
I recently tried sharing photos from the spirit week organized by the pharmacy team at Ohio State’s Veterinary Medical Center. I knew it was National Pharmacy Week and wanted to share something so I walked over to the pharmacy to take a group photo. To my surprise, everyone was dressed really wacky that day. They told me about their spirit week and how they had different fun outfits all planned out. Their team then emailed me more photos from each day of the week. I shared the photos across our social media channels and the post was our top post on the VMC Facebook page for October!
The post had 613 engagements and a 24% engagement rate, quite a bit higher than our goal of a 10% engagement rate on our top post. I want to continue to share real photos, featuring smiling team members. It makes sense that our audience likes these lofi, realistic, fun photos. That’s good social media!
Some might view these photos as unprofessional or off-brand but I think they show humanity and collaboration. If you were thinking about applying for a job at the OSU VMC and you saw how much fun this service has, wouldn’t that encourage you to apply? One of our goals on the VMC’s social media is to encourage job applicants, especially vet techs and vet assistants and this post helps achieve that goal.
